What is a customer portal?

A self-service page for a subscriber's own agreement, limited to the actions you decide to offer.

Short answer

A customer portal is a self-service area where a subscriber can view their recurring service and carry out the actions the provider allows, such as checking the plan, reviewing invoices or changing the plan. It reduces support requests, but the provider still sets the rules.

How it works

The customer opens the portal and sees the current plan, status, billing period, renewal date and invoices. Each action they take updates the same subscription record that staff work from.

Illustrative example

Hypothetical: a customer moves from a larger package to a smaller one before renewal. The portal shows the new price and the date it takes effect. Whether that change is allowed in the portal, or needs a request to the provider, depends on the setup.

Common confusion

A portal is not a separate billing system. It shows the records the rest of the subscription uses, so a change made in the portal appears in the same history as a change made by staff.

How Komashi handles it

Komashi customers see their subscription in the portal, with the plan, status, the date it is valid until, add-ons and invoices. Customers can move to another plan on active subscriptions; upgrades apply now with a prorated charge and downgrades take effect at renewal. Pausing is not available.

Common questions

Can customers cancel in the portal?

Cancellation is supported. By default it ends the subscription at the end of the current period; your provider settings can end it immediately instead.

Can customers change their payment method?

Yes, on active recurring subscriptions where the connected provider supports it. Bank transfer and cash payments are confirmed by your team, not by the customer.
