Formulas and assumptions

Assumptions

  • Costs stay the same every month and do not change with volume.
  • The setup fee is paid once. It is shown as cash upfront and is not spread into the margin figures.
  • Taxes, payment fees, refunds and cancellations are not modelled.
  • The result reflects the costs and target margin you enter. Komashi does not calculate a market-optimal price.

Formulas

  • Monthly cost = delivery hours × hourly rate + tool costs
  • Monthly price = monthly cost ÷ (1 − target margin)
  • Price per period = monthly price × months in the period × (1 − prepay discount)
  • Effective monthly price = price per period ÷ months in the period
  • Margin per month = effective monthly price − monthly cost
  • Margin share = margin per month ÷ effective monthly price

Worked example with the default inputs in USD: 4 h × $50 + $20 tools = $220 monthly cost. $220 ÷ (1 − 0.30) = $314.29 monthly price at a 30% target margin.

Questions about this calculator

Does this show the best price for my market?

No. It shows what your own costs and target margin produce for each billing period. It does not compare you with competitors or market prices.

Why does a prepay discount lower my margin?

The discount lowers the price you receive each month, while your costs stay the same, so the margin per month falls.

Is the setup fee included in the margin?

No. The setup fee is added to the cash collected upfront, but it is not spread across the months in the margin figures.
