How subscription upgrades and downgrades work
A plan change affects both the service and the bill. Before confirming it, show the customer what changes, when it takes effect and whether a charge or credit is involved.
Quick answer
In Komashi, an upgrade takes effect immediately with a prorated charge. A downgrade takes effect at the next renewal, so the current plan stays in place until then. Show both timings before the customer confirms.
Upgrade now, or downgrade at renewal?
| Before | Customer action | Effective date | Billing effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Care Plus, $190 per month | Upgrade to a higher plan | Immediately | Prorated charge for the rest of the current period |
| A higher plan | Downgrade to a lower plan | At the next renewal | The current plan stays in place until then |
A downgrade two weeks before renewal
A customer on a higher monthly plan asks to move to a lower one two weeks before renewal. The team records the request, confirms the date the lower plan starts, and tells the customer that the current plan stays in place until then.
Exceptions and provider differences
Exceptions, custom pricing and provider-specific behavior need rules of their own. Komashi applies the upgrade and downgrade timing described here; check how your configured payment provider handles a prorated charge before you promise a specific amount.
